Review

Danny Wallace is about to turn thirty and his life has become a cliche. Recently married and living in a smart new area of town, he's swapped pints down the pub for lattes and brunch. For the first time in his life, he's feeling, well...grown-up. But something's not right. Something's missing. Until he finds an old address book containing just twelve names. His best mates as a kid. Where are they now? Who are they now? And how are they coping with being grown-up too? And so begins a journey from A-Z, tracking down and meeting his old gang. He travels from Berlin to Tokyo, from Sydney to LA. He even goes to Loughborough. He meets Fijian chiefs, German rappers, some ninjas, and a carvery manager who's managed to solve time travel. But how will they respond to a man they haven't seen in twenty years, turning up and asking if they're coming out to play? Part-comedy, part-travelogue, part-memoir, "Friends Like These" is the story of what can happen when you track down your past, and of where the friendships you thought you'd outgrown can take you today...

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Fantastic! & rather theraputic to 30 or nearly 30 year olds!

As I have just turned 30 myself, much to my disgust, this book appealed to be, only being 2 years younger than Danny albeit female, I related to an awful lot of his memories of his youth.
It's a fantastic book, and I had to remind myself that it wasn't fiction a few times.
Thoroughly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

If you have never read any of the Danny Wallace books then I recommend you do...the guy is a pure genius! Your own childhood memories will come flooding back whilst reading 'Friends Like These' and I guarantee you will try to find at least one friend who for ever what reason your friendship has grown apart throughout your adult life. The highs and lows of this book, along with the laugh out loud comedy moments make this book a must read, as one of the reviews says "One of those rare books that actually has the potential to change your life" I totally understood the whole turning '30 thing' that Danny discribes so brilliantly......
Its a must read and money well spent in my opinion.......go get it for yourself!!
