A sumptuous and sensual tale of intrigue, romance and betrayal set against the backdrop of a defining moment in European history, The Other Boleyn Girl tells the story of two beautiful sisters, Anne (Natalie Portman) and Mary (Scarlett Johansson) Boleyn who, driven by their family's blind ambition, compete for the love of the handsome and passionate King Henry VIII (Eric Bana). While both women eventually share the king's bed, only one will ascend to the throne for a brief and turbulent reign that ends tragically with a swing of the executioner's sword.

'henry the eighth' risks all to get what he wants in this version of events.
bored with his wife 'catherine' and upset that she has not produced the son he craves, his head is turned by the 'boleyn' sisters, who in turn have been encouraged by their uncle to submit to 'henry' so the family can gain status.
turning from 'mary'after she had produced a son to the sceaming 'anne' who holds back her favours forcing concessions and historic changes from the king.
the film shows the betrayels, the trials, and ultimate end for many of the 'boleyn' family, who in turn get the last triumph over the wishes of 'henry' by way of 'anne's' daughter 'elizabeth'
this is a very enjoyable period drama though not historicaly acurate of course.
Completely absurd, but very enjoyable.

A sort of sixteenth century Coronation street, this will appeal to many. Especially those who haven't read the book and aren't going to nitpick the historical content. It's well acted, directed, with sumptious sets and certainly deserves a look. Completely absurd, but very enjoyable.
Glad I didn't read the book.........

I can't understand why reviewers are going on about how bad this film is because the book was brilliant - what sort of reasoning is that?
I've not read the book and so I really enjoyed this film but I am a big Portman fan. Ignore the Meldrews and watch it for yourself.
